The Smurfs must use every little ounce of goodness and love they can muster to battle an even greater evil than Gargamel. The Smurfs happily decorate their darling village for a joyous holiday celebration. But Greedy ate the last nut, which was the finishing touch for the Great Pudding for the feast. So the Smurfs trudge into the forest to borrow a nut from Squirrel. Off in the woods comes the tinkling sound of sleigh bells from a sled carrying young William and Gwenevere. They eagerly listen to their Grandfather tell them about Santa Claus while on their way to their uncle's house for the holidays. Their uncle, the good bailiff, is concerned about their safety and leads a search party to find them. A mysterious, evil stranger has been watching the progress of the sleigh and sends a pack of wolves to frighten the horse pulling it. The sleigh overturns and Grandfather lays unconscious in the snow. The frightened children wander off for help. Unfortunately they come to Gargamel's door who is busy conjuring up evil spells to spoil Christmas and capture the Smurfs. He turns the poor children away; The evil stranger comes to Gargamel and offers him a scroll containing the directions to the Smurf village and a spell for their destruction, in exchange for the children. He wants to pay the bailiff back for meddling in his evil schemes. Wicked Gargamel agrees. Luckily the Smurfs find the children just in time to save them from a pack of wolves. They return to the village for warmth and a little Christmas cheer. The search party has found the sleigh and revives Grandfather. They encounter Gargamel and offer a reward for the children. Gargamel tricks the Smurfs into returning to the sleigh, grabs the children, and turns them over to the stranger for the scroll. Tracker Smurf keeps the little blue people on the trail of the children even though they know Gargamel will destroy their village. The wicked wizard is disappointed to discover the Smurfs are gone but uses the evil magic to burn down their homes. Gargamel tries to get the reward for the children as well by showing the search party their trail. The stranger takes Gargamel prisoner as well for betraying him. He takes them to an outdoor amphitheatre to prepare for what he calls, the final journey to a much warmer home. He causes a great wall of fire to envelop them just as the Smurfs arrive. Papa Smurf fears even for Gargamel when he recognizes the immense evil of the Stranger. He instructs the band of Smurfs to sing with all the love they can give, Goodness makes the badness go away. The stranger angrily tries to fight back with more fire. The woodland animals join in the song as the children and Gargamel sing for their freedom in a fierce battle of spirits. Goodness prevails as the evil stranger goes up in a cloud of smoke and the search party arrives for the children. The Smurfs return to their ruined village but are still happy to be alive and together. Harmony entertains them with a song. When he strikes his first true note, the sky radiates with light and the village is miraculously restored. Then the Smurfs sing and dance around the great, decorated fir tree, laden with 100 tiny present.
