Their Grandfather notifies Millius. When David and Tomte arrive, the ailing Otters lead the Gnomes to a paper mill that is dumping toxic wastes into the river, destroying it and everything that lives in or around it. With the help of a heron, David infiltrates the mill. The owner of the paper mill leads a group of school children on a tour of the paper making process. David hides under the heron as it pantomimes David's words, lecturing the owner about the pollution the mill is doing and the damage it is causing. After chiding from the children, the owner vows to use recycled paper rather than pulp logs in the paper making process to reduce pollution.
